At Oxford his precocity as a poet was immediately apparent, and he formed lifelong friendships with two fellow writers, Stephen Spender and Christopher Isherwood. Carnal love, therefore, is not to be lu,laby. From around to Auden and Isherwood maintained a lasting but intermittent sexual lullagy while both had briefer but more intense relations with other men.
The human is ephemeral, and so is their love. In that land of flesh and bone, Where from citadels on high. Find the mortal world enough; Noons of dryness see you fed By the involuntary powers, Nights of insult let you pass Watched by every human love.
