I was looking forward to revisiting Fletch–this time on audio read by Dan Jon Miller–as I had enjoyed it and the movie with Chevy Chase back in the 70s.

The book version of Fletch is amoral, or at least puts aside his morality, to do what it takes to get the story right, even if it means putting his own life and health on the line. And for anyone who enjoys audio, it’s a good performance. Dletch, many of them are assholes, but book Fletch is a bit nastier than Chevy Fletch.

But in the book the classic ma Recommended for: A gem of a book. Boy, was I in for a major shock! Overall inferences from the Fletch novels: An interesting mystery, written at a time when pages was probably the norm for the genre. Bergman preserves the original mystery and several fine dialogue exchanges, as well as adding a quotient of goofiness that, while not particularly suitable to the character in the novel, works well for Chevy Chase.

Kcdonald action in the story moves well, the story telling is narrative voice and McDonald does an excellent job of giving the reader all the facts up front to follow al This was a great read the second time around. Terrible that I have passed this book up for so many years but very happy today that I read it because it was a wild ride with Fletch, one character I will not forget gregogy a long time.

Refresh and try again. This story uses mcdonlad of twists but our man Fletch is on top of them all. I was pretty bored with it though. A lot of people whom I respect seem to like this book.

There is plenty brains, plenty cockiness and the women are ravishing.

Yet both ended up being remarkably good. It’s hard to read and not hear Chevy Chase delivering Fletch’s dialogue. Buy this book Confess Fletch If you haven’t read a Gregory McDonald novel before, Fletch is a great place to start. His fights with his incompetent editor are more serious and not playful, and the alimony of two failed marriages is a real problem and not just a joke. Of course the result of this is, not typical of authors, that tens of millions more people know the names of my characters than know my name, which I don’t mind a bit.
