They cover the period from his first big tournament — the USSR Championship ofin which the year-old Botvinnik became a master — to the International Tournament at Groningen in — in which he demonstrated his qualifications for winning the world championship.

Of course the verbal explanations Botvinnik gives are not to the depth of something like “logical chess: The book ends with a series of six studies, as well as his thesis on what a “combination” actually is.
