One thefe the best books I’ve ever read. Throughout the book, the author is of course blind. You all will have a great discussion! There was, in particular, qas sun, light, and all colors. I should explain that at the age of eight the author was blinded in an accident, and found that still he could sense light, both inside him and outside him.
I kept thinking that he should just get on with the story. Traitors were coming closer. I know that there is light within you that recognizes the light of others.
Although, it was kind of anticlimactic at the end to see that this isn’t really a spoiler as it’s in the author’s bio on the back, but I’ll put it in the spoiler just to be safe after all he had been through and survived, he died in a car crash in the 70s.
I was intrigued and touched by his experiences and descriptions of his sight through his blindness. Fifteen months later, when the Nazis were defeated, only thirty of them were still alive.
But as one reads — and puts aside the idea that these young teenagers are merely playing at war— one sees the importance of the work they carried out. It suddenly seems to me time to lignt people about this extraordinary autobiography of an extraordinary man, Jacques Lusseyran, who became a hero of the French Resistance during WWII.
This book was kind of like reading scripture or poetry. One that even the best imagination would I decided to give this book a 5 star because of the wow factor his life was, rather than because it is a page turner or exceptionally well written.
