Got this book for my 11 year old niece but after reading it with my wife, we decided not to give it to her. I will admit that I was amazed at this second volume as it is just as aamphigorey and interesting as the first volume! Edward Gorey made all this stuff, and he’s a human being just like me! So, in addition, the reads get better and amlhigorey interesting too. Books by Edward Gorey. Edward Gorey had a style all his own; black and white line drawings that seem simple but sometimes have an immense amount of detail in amphiigorey wallpaper, draperies, carpets all meticulously drawn in. What I find most fascinating with Gorey’s work is that despite the comfortless story lines and elegantly eerie illustrations, there is a sense of wit and light and life.

Somehow, while I’ve been aware of Edward Gorey for years, I’ve never been much bothered to sit down and read some of his work. Gorey includes a to of little tales translated from French, with his illustrations. Although he would frequently state that his formal art training was “negligible”, Gorey studied art for one semester at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago ineventually becoming a professional illustrator.

Some quite entertaining, very Gothic images of Gorey’s trademark Victorian characters is that woman brandishing a hatpin?! I really needed a doses of twisted laughs and creepy nonsense.

I’m not sure what I got from reading 2 books in this series. Even stranger, darker, and more nonsensical than I expected, though that’s Amphigoreey for you.
